New software park in Bhubaneswar
(Dharitri#15-8-00)

Bhubaneswar: Orissa is not far behind the software
savvy states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil
Nadu. An IT Park christened as 'Infocity' and
constructed on a sprawling area of 205 acres of land
in the Chandaka Industrial Estate is ready to welcome
major software giants in the country.

Union Minister for Information &Technology Pramod
Mahajan would inaugurate the Park on 19 August.
Talking to newsmen at a press conference a couple of
days back, Asit Tripathy, Chairman, Industrial
Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) informed
that Rs.255 million have been spent for the
construction of the Park. While the Central government
has provided Rs.100 million, the state government has
provided Rs.52.5 million. An advance amount of Rs.4
million has been given to the Telecom Department for
1000 telephone lines to the Park. Out of the total
land area of 205 acres, 140 acres of land have been
earmarked for sale. Software major Infosys
Technologies Limited has began construction work of
its development centre in an area of 25 acres of land
in the Park and another 25 acres of land has been
reserved by the company. The project work would be
finished by the end of December. An amount of Rs.506
million would be spent in the first phase. At least
1200 software engineers would be employed in the new
office of the company.

Other software companies like Web-Technologies Limited
(New Delhi), News & Company Limited (Mumbai) and other
state based software companies have applied for land
in the Infocity. However, though many reputed
Multinationals based at Bangalore are interested to
open development centres here, they are showing
reluctance due to lack of direct flight facilities
between the two cities. Leading software company Wipro
has also shown interest in purchasing 30 acres of land
once direct flight facility between Bhubaneswar and
Bangalore is established
