Subject:  Some Halwa! Some News!...and what about a discussion???!!!

Hi all,

After all those 'spicy mails' ....Gogia's sweets are a welcome change. Hope
Gogia continues to limit his "Halwa ka dookan" to Delhi and other branches
and keeps away from the internet.....I mean does not try to make
"hawla-ka-dookan.com" 'coz the way the software market is behaving its bound
to bomb! Its long since we had a discussion in our group and dont you think
it will be a great idea if we discuss about the talk of this industry "The
future of Software(or future of software enggs ....) after this slowdown".
Or at least some info of its impact in your company and
location(Mumbai...California etc). Can I ask Debasis, Dibyendu, Tarini,
Sambit ,Kaushik, Shyam, Sarita, Dilip, Sasmita, Monica, Usha, Manas, Bhakta,
Tapan, Chinmay, Krishna_Chim.......to initiate this discussion ???!!!

By the way the news is Tarini has left for Spain for 2 weeks and Tushar(Comp
Sci) got thru Infosys. Rama Panda is back from Japan but will soon go back
to meet his Japanese girlfriend! You should see his new Japanese haircut!
Samaresh is also back from US and begs everybody against going to US thru
bodyshoppers.

Wishes,

Gyan

Subject:  Some reactions to your mails...

Hi all,

I am sure we'll flooded by mails from others telling their views on the
condition in their company and city after this slow down...Excuse me for
pointing a few names to initiate the discussion...I just picked some news
considering the frequency they send mails.....

I seem to agree with agree with Shakti when he says this industry has grown
unreasonably(100% or more) for past few years. It was bound to stop....and
stabilise and thats what happening.

But when u, Vinay and Krishna_Chim say that software engg. should work in
core technologies(Unix,C,C++) I do not agree....see even now there is is
need for making houses and roads and that does not mean there will be a huge
demand for Civil Engineers! Its not that the demand for core technologies
has gone up....actually its demand has remained constant...while the demand
for internet technologies has gone down... Its good that such a thing has
happened...things need to stabilise! We used to have DD1 and DD2 and then we
got hundreds of channels coming up....Sony, Zee, Home TV, Jain TV,
Star....but later later lot of them closed down.....but its not that we went
back to DD1 and DD2.....now we have some selected good channels Sony, Star,
Zee...they stabilised....so will be this software industry....

As far as KC's query is concerned....I must say that the list is not
true....but there have been lay-offs in Companies like Telesoft, Savantech,
Aditi, Axial, Honeywell, Trigyn...
Its sad that people are being without any solid reason.....And there is no
plans of lay-off in Infosys(as Usha said), Wipro or TCs...in fact TCS is in
a recruitment spree... I think others should also send some information if
they have.

And Usha mind telling which carrier u meant while writing "Wishing you a
great carrier ahead this year .."

Dont panic...stay wherever you are....think twice(or thrice!) before
changing your company.... and as Shakti says...don't go to US thru body
shoppers...

Take care...and keep shooting mails...

Warm regards,

Gyan
