                                    TO HELL WITH DRESS CODE

                                                                                                          ZULU

It was thought that a man's business clothes are the most important determinant of how he is treated . There used to be days in ancient corporate era when people used dress themselves "properly" as per the norms ! If you wore proper clothes and your outfit radiated "I am bound for management " People used to pretend they adore you because you could be their boss someday"If you were not dressed "properly" you were the Grumpy clerk .If you wore uniform you were an attendant or worked in a mine , ship or petroleum company .

Gone are the days . There has been a radioactive change .A chain reaction of sorts . Gone are the days when what you wore could be classified into broadly two categories : Formal and Informal . Now it is semi-formal , more inclined towards informal thing ! Even by conservative estimate now it is all semi-formals .It's friday dressing all round the week . You find guys moving around like school boys in not too short shorts and funky T-shirts not in school but at primely located corporate houses .Freedom has been achieved without a price. For how long could the management act like an authoritarian .Jeans at workplace is still a Taboo though . And if you are an IT guy you can even possibly wear anything you preferred .Or nothing at all . People are scared of the IT gurus , the computer guys .The comp-guys have broken all the traditional dress codes and norms .Even in the most conservative of companies , like mine guys don't hesitate coming fresh to office , their sleeves tucked up . Their clothes say "I am the only one who understands computer system. WORSHIP ME "

For the men the singular combination of trousers and shirts has become universal dress code . But on the contrary Indian women had always a variety to choose from . She could come in Saree . Saree is formal I sincerely believe .Saree reveals the best of you and conceals the worst , tummy for example .Then there was this Salwar Kameez which could be of thousands of sub variety . For some reason or the other Indian women were always uncomfortable in western outfits . Especially the tight body fitting ones .But gone are those days . These are days when the Indian fair sex moves around unseemingly too comfortable in rather awkward looking western outfits . Even the ones ,with so called typical Indian figure now move aroud in western outfits. When men are thinking of abandoning the formal dress code concept , women seem to be endorsing that. Indian women ,who never in their lives have doned western outfits suddenly take a new Avtaar when they leave their own land ,"Watan ki Mitti" motherland .They spring up in rather uncomfortable weatern wear .When I say uncomfortable I mean uncomfortable to the eyes . Now I muse who told them that in the West people won't give them their due respect in Indian formal wear . Indian women costumes are still en vogue .After all we Indians have brain, the sexiest human organ. Now don't you brand me as a male chauvinist . I am no MCP . It's just a commentary on changing corporate dressing preferences of thr fair sex . This is what I see . I am not peeping into people's bedroom after all . Neither into their bathrooms . Just that preferences of the opposite sex differs .

Cloths - formal or elsewise are one of the few attributes which distinguishes us from animals . But it's no more apt if someone says "Clothes make a man ". Yeah Man does make clothes .
